🏝️ Islands & Boat Tips – Visiting the Ria Formosa Islands
⛵ Ferry Schedules (Change by Season)
Boat schedules change significantly between low season (October–May) and high season (June–September). In summer there are more daily departures and earlier/later services. Always check current schedules at the pier or online:

- Tavira / Cabanas islands: aquataxis.pt
📅 Best Time to Visit the Islands
- May / June / September — Best balance: warm weather, accessible ferries, far fewer crowds.
- July / August — Beautiful but very busy. Ferries fill up. Book early in the day.
- Winter — Quiet and wild. Most restaurants close. Good for birdwatching and solitude.
🆚 Which Island to Choose?
- Ilha de Faro — Closest to the city. Good for families. Has restaurants and services.
- Ilha do Farol / Culatra — Authentic fishing community. Iconic lighthouse. One of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. Very popular.
- Ilha Deserta (Barreta) — Completely uninhabited (except 1 restaurant). Perfect for those seeking pristine wilderness and zero crowds.
- Ilha de Tavira / Armona / Fuzeta / Cabanas — Quieter, more local feel. Great for a relaxed day trip away from tourist circuits.
📞 Reservations in Summer
⚠️ Important: Arrive at the pier 30–45 minutes early in summer — ferries sell out. The restaurant on Ilha Deserta requires advance booking weeks ahead in July/August.
