📶 Connectivity & Practical Tips for the Algarve
📶 Mobile Data & Wi-Fi
- EU residents can use their home mobile plan with no roaming charges.
- Non-EU visitors should buy a local SIM card on arrival (NOS, MEO or Vodafone shops in Faro Airport and major towns). A 10–15GB tourist SIM typically costs €10–15.
- Wi-Fi is available in most cafés, restaurants and accommodation. Coverage in the serra and remote beaches can be limited.
📱 Useful Apps
- Google Maps — Essential. Download the Algarve region offline before you go.
- Uber / Bolt — Both operate in Faro, Lagos, Portimão and Albufeira. Very useful for nights out. Limited coverage in smaller towns.
- EasyToll / Portugal Tolls — For managing motorway tolls if your rental car doesn't have a Via Verde device.
- Zomato / TheFork — For finding and booking local restaurants.
💳 Cards vs Cash
- Major supermarkets, petrol stations, hotels and most restaurants accept Visa/Mastercard.
- Many traditional tascas, market stalls, beach bars and ferry operators are cash-only.
- Always carry €30–50 in cash as a backup, especially for day trips to islands or small villages.
- Multibanco ATMs are reliable and widely available. Fees vary by your home bank.
